The Web Recorder is the fastest way to build a data-backed map. Instead of guessing cycle times, you time each step as it happens.
Start a recording
- Open the map you want to fill in. If you don't have one yet, create it - stages can be added as you go.
- Click Record from the icon bar.
- Type the first stage name and press Start Step. The step timer starts.
- When the step is done, tap Stop Step. The step is saved with its measured duration and you're prompted for the next.
Classify as you go
Each step asks you to mark it Valuable, Incidental, or Waste. Don't overthink it - the classification is easy to change later. The point is to keep momentum during the observation.
Finish and merge
Hit Stop Recording when the process ends. You'll see a summary of every step with its duration. Click Merge into Map to append the recording as a new run against your existing stages, or Save as New Map to start fresh.
Tips for a clean first recording
- Don't try to name every step perfectly - use short verbs like "Pick", "Pack", "Ship".
- Waiting counts. Every hand-off, every approval queue, every "I'll get back to you" is Wait Time and you want to see it.
- One recording rarely captures the truth. Do 3-5 runs across different operators and different times of day, then compare.
