Video Analysis File Requirements
The video analysis feature accepts a range of common video formats. Here is what you need to know before uploading.
Supported formats
- MP4 (H.264 codec) — Recommended. Best compatibility and compression.
- MOV — Apple QuickTime format. Fully supported.
- AVI — Supported with common codecs.
- WebM — Supported (VP8 and VP9 codecs).
- MKV — Supported with H.264 or H.265 video tracks.
Size and duration limits
- Maximum file size: 50 MB (the upload limit for all file types in MapVS).
- Recommended duration: Under 10 minutes for best analysis results.
- Resolution: 720p or higher recommended. The AI extracts frames and needs readable text/details.
Recording tips for best results
- Stability — Use a tripod or stable surface. Shaky footage reduces analysis accuracy.
- Framing — Capture the full process area in frame. The AI identifies stage boundaries from visual changes.
- Lighting — Ensure adequate lighting so the AI can detect activity and read any visible metrics or labels.
- Audio — If your video has audio, the system can also extract spoken observations and timestamps.
What the analysis produces
After upload, the AI analyses the video to identify distinct process stages, estimate timing for each stage, and flag potential waste or inefficiencies. The output is a draft value stream map that you can review and refine.
